In SCIV, the man wanted nothing to do with her. Fire-Forged Friends: With Siegfried, apparently. However the general style of Wolfkrone harkens to several small Germanic territories of the time that did actually exist, as even in the 19th Century, the Holy Roman Empire was composed of 42 separate states and 38 of them, like Wolfkrone, were mini-monarchies. Fictional Country: Unlike most of the other combatants, Hilde hails from the "Kingdom of Wolfkrone" a small, made-up monarchy situated between the Kingdom of France and the Holy Roman Empire.Dual Wielding: Hilde uses a short sword and a spear in battle.Almost humorous considering she was banned from many tournaments in the later part of lifecycle of SCIV due to a genuine game-breaking feature she had. In spite of the incredible niche-ness of some of these combos, this didn't stop some folks from declaring her to be ban-worthy in SCV at least briefly. Difficult, but Awesome: Her style requires the player to hold an attack button down several seconds to charge up attacks to help continue her juggles, which require precise timing and can be chained into loops in exceptionally difficult combos that have different timing depending on which character and the angle they are started from.Cool Helmet: Her entire suit of armor is cool, but the helmet is a big part of it.By holding down either horizontal or vertical attack buttons she can release up to four different levels of charged attack depending on how long it was charged. Charged Attack: Her primary gimmick uses the Hold style of charge.Like most Germanic princesses, she would be styled Her Serene Highness Princess Hildegard. Raphael is also stated to be nobility, but his rank within the French peerage is never specified. Blue Blood: As a princess, she ranks highest of all the characters on a social level, followed closely by Ivy, a countess.Battle Ballgown: Her 2p outfit in IV is a period-correct Elizabethan dress complete with leg-of-mutton sleeves and a ruff. And then, you can go through all of it just for your foe to easily read it and sidestep it. While you're charging, you can only perform A attacks and kicks, with are both limited range, and you can't throw either. It is achieved by holding down B for 30 seconds. Awesome, but Impractical: One move not listed in her move list is an unblockable forward thrust that utterly annihilates most of your opponent's HP.Animal Motifs: As seen on her armor, which incorporates wolves in SCIV, and griffons in SCV.The Wolfkrone Monument stage is a carousel complete with animatronic musicians. Advanced Ancient Acropolis: The Soul series is set in the late 16th century.Action Mom: As of SCV, she is 35 years old and a mother to two young children. Her overall style focuses on keeping the opponent at bay with her lance from afar while defending herself with her short sword up close. By holding down both attack buttons for a set period of time, she will use more powerful moves depending on how long the button was held. Her vertical attacks involve her sword, while her horizontal attacks involve her lance. Hilde can be considered the first "charge" character in the series. ![]() ![]() ![]() Sammy J sang "You'll Never Know What It's Like" at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and had the audience giggling along with recollections of life in the 90s. ![]() Nothing splits the generations like what was considered advanced technology during our formative years, and one comedian has encapsulated that divide in an ode to the 1990s. When we tell our kids about dial-up internet, they look at us the same bewildered way we looked at our parents when they talked about party lines. Those of us who remember life before the internet love nothing more than to share "back in my day" stories with today's youngsters who've never had to try to get somewhere without GPS. “Our perception of days, weeks, years and that kind of time seems to be especially influenced by our perspective: Are we in the moment experiencing it, or are we looking backward on time?” psychology professor Cindy Lustig told the University of Michigan. A 50-year-old looking back at the past year will have a lot fewer changes to process than a 5-year-old, therefore the year will seems like it went by a lot faster. Even if there are major life changes, the middle-aged brain isn't evolving at nearly the same rate as a child. A year in the life of a 50-year-old probably isn't a whole lot different than when they were 48 or 49. A year in the life of a 5-year-old is full of rapid growth and change and learning and development. It's also a matter of how much change has happened in that year. For a 50-year-old, a year only is 0.2% of their life, so it feels like it went by much more quickly. To a 5-year-old, a year is 20% of their entire life. It might simply be about time-to-life ratiosĪnother popular theory about why time feels different as a child than it does as an adult is the ratio of any given day, week or year to the amount of time we've been alive. In other words, processing the same number of mental images we did in our youth takes longer now, somewhat counterintuitively making time seem to pass more quickly. "It’s not that their experiences were much deeper or more meaningful it’s just that they were being processed in rapid fire.” “People are often amazed at how much they remember from days that seemed to last forever in their youth, Bejan shared with Harvard University. That slower processing means we create fewer mental images each second than we did when we were younger, thereby making time seem to slow down. As we age, our neural networks increase in size and complexity, and as a result, process visual information at a slower rate. Professor Adrian Bejan has a theory based on how neurons process signals. Our neural processing slows down as we age ![]() School-aged kids and adults tended to use horizontal gestures, indicating time as linear, increasing with age. Young children were much more likely to use vertical hand gestures, connoting volume or magnitude, to indicate a length of time than the other two age groups. The way the study participants described the length of the videos in gestures was also telling. Researchers split 138 people into three age groups- pre-kindergarten, school-age and adults 18 and over-and showed them two videos of the same duration, one that was "eventful" and one that was "uneventful." Interestingly, the pre-K group perceived the eventful video to be longer, while the older children and adults saw the uneventful video as longer. (On an odd side note, surveys show that our time perception during the pandemic varied a lot from place to place-people in some parts of the world felt that time moved more slowly, while others felt time moved more quickly.)Īccording to a 2023 Hungarian study published in Nature Scientific Reports, very young children perceive time differently than older children and adults. The pandemic gave us an even greater sense of this relativity as disruptions to our normal routines and the stress associated with the COVID-19 years messed with our sense of time. The years felt like they passed by much more slowly when we were children, and by middle age, they feel like they pass in the blink of an eye. This relativity exists in every passing moment, but it also exists in the bigger picture as well. We measure it with steady, unchanging beats, but how it feels changes constantly. And yet the ticking of seconds as they go by doesn't change tempo. Time also drags when you're doing drudgery work and feels like it stands still in moments of significance. "Time flies when you're having fun" is a saying for a reason. Time perception is relative-and kids perceive it differently Here are a few theories about what creates the freight train phenomenon. ![]() ![]() PowerPoint's intuitive and straightforward interface makes it accessible to users with varying levels of technical expertise. So, as long as you have a good password scheme in place (and are not using an autofill password app on your devices), I wouldn't worry about the SMS angle. "If I ruled Mars, I'd make 100% sure ieeee could get Gmail." And length is really the strength of a password, not complexity (at least not until the quantum PCs become commonplace). At least with an authenticator app they need physical access. These days it's trivial for a hacker to reroute your phone number to a different phone if they want to. Using SMS instead of an authentication app is going backwards. Personally, I like 1Password Opens a new windowthe best. Or, you can use something like 1Password Opens a new windowor MyAuth Opens a new window(or even Microsoft's Authenticator Opens a new window) as referenced in the video linked to above. After a little digging I found that there is no way to recover Google Authentication codes if you lose or format your old phone before going through the Google transfer procedure (which requires both the new and old phones). With GitHub Desktop, you can perform Git commands, such as committing and pushing changes, in a graphical user interface, rather than using the command line. I haven't used GitHub Desktop for a very long time, so I don't know exactly what happens if you check out a remote branch through the GUI – it may offer to create a local branch "3.x" named after the remote one, or it might not.GitHub Desktop is a free, open source application that helps you to work with code hosted on GitHub or other Git hosting services. (Though if you try to check out a non-existent local "3.x" branch, Git magically creates it from "origin/3.x".) You can still create a branch off it, it's just not automatic. However, at least using the command-line git tools, checking out a remote branch (whether it's "origin/3.x" or "upstream/3.x") is a temporary operation – it doesn't automatically create a local branch that you can work on, it only checks out a "detached" commit. to track someone else's development fork.) (This is more general than just "upstream", you can configure any number of remotes, e.g. Your desktop repo has full copies of all branches from the upstream repo (as of the last fetch) and you can check out their commits, create local branches off them, merge or cherry-pick individual commits into a local branch, etc. ![]() If the upstream repo has some commits ahead of my fork on the 3.x branch and I click on upstream/3.x, does my working directory somehow gain the changes from those upstream commits? For example, you might integrate the newest upstream changes by merging "upstream/3.x" into your local "3.x", then push to your GitHub fork's "origin/3.x". Git repositories aren't limited to having a single URL to push/pull from – it is very common to have two when working with forks, and to directly fetch commits and branches from both. (Neither the "origin/" branches nor "upstream/" ones are actually local to the repo that GH Desktop is showing they're only locally cached copies of remote branches.) The cloned repository that you have on your desktop is fully separate from the fork that you have on GitHub – it has its own branches and everything. You're not only working on a fork you're working on a fork of the fork. How is it possible that I could switch to a branch on the upstream repo if I'm working on a fork?
